Depicting a female nude dancing in a harem, surrounded by musicians. Having a carved gilt wood frame with a scroll and floral motif, with shell form bracketed corners. Frame measurements are (81H x 53W x 4D) Label on the verso of the frame (Walter Kimball and Co, Boston MA)
This canvas has a new stretcher, and has also been relined. Showing five repaired tears along the lower and upper center. Shows evidence of heavy restoration. As viewed under UV light.
There is overpainting to the face, arms and torso of the central figure. The right side figure shows overpainting to the face, torso and arms. The figure on the right also has a repaired tear. There are areas of overpainting to the cloth surrounding the central figure. The figure on the left shows touch ups to the shoulder, hair, and arm. The figure in the foreground shows overpainting to the back of the head and shoulders. No punctures or holes that have not been previously repaired. RFM & JF
